City Hall/Police Building

Site Photo 16Work this week continues on demolition of the storm drain under the new building area. Large excavations removed sections of pipe from underground. This will allow for footings and piers for the new building to go in unimpeded by abandoned pipe underground.

Work also continues on construction of the temporary secure parking lot and ingress/egress to Fair Oaks for the Police Department. The gravel roadway will be located where the new roadway will connect Ashfield to Fair Oaks. Installation of the temporary parking fence and automated gate has been pushed to the week of July 29. The Police Department will operate from their temporary facility until the new facility completes and they can move in.

Historic Town Hall

Work on Historic Town Hall this week involves continuation of the interior demolition and abatement. As an old building, there is some lead-based paint abatement required before the contractor can remove the old ceiling, walls and flooring. This building will ultimately become a part of the new Library connected via a deck and patio doors that spill out from the side of the building onto the new deck. The front doors of the entry way area are being saved and refinished for reinstallation at the end of the remodel.

New Library

Project work this week continues with the clearing of the building pad site for the new library. Survey work for the drilled piers begins this Friday and drilling and installation of the piers will begin next week (July 22). The new library includes a "rammed earth wall" along the street facing side of the building. Construction of the rammed earth wall will take longer than construction for a normal wall.

Site Work

Work continues on the installation of the new sewer line from Maple Avenue to Fair Oaks. The sewer line is expected to run from the manhole at Maple Avenue and Station Lane back up through the corporation yard and following along the railroad tracks over to Fair Oaks. A subcontractor of SJ Amoroso is installing the new sewer line. Work on the new sewer line will continue well into August.

Cal Water will be onsite the week of August 5 to begin installation of the new water line. This date has been pushed out a week from prior notices. Layout and saw cutting will work the same as the sewer line and it is anticipated that the water line will travel along the same route. Cal Water will be conducting installation of their pipeline.
