On 12-15-14, two residential burglaries occurred in the Town of Atherton by persons claiming to be plumbers. In both incidents, the plumber or plumbers made contact with the resident at the front door, explained their water was contaminated by sewage, and asked permission to enter the home to check the water.
Once inside of the home, the plumber or plumbers had the resident turn on all of their faucets. While one plumber was walking around with the resident, the other plumber walked around the house and stole items. The items stolen included money and jewelry. No plumbing vehicles were seen at the time of the burglaries.
Here are some tips to protect you from becoming a victim of this crime:
1) Do not allow people into your home who you do not know or were not expecting.
2) Keep your doors and windows locked when you are at home and away from your home.
3) Utilize your alarm system.
