[ARCHIVED] Before or After Hours Construction - Special Permission

Before or After Hours Construction

With these large monolithic pours, even if you start at 10 am, sometimes you won't finish until 5 or 6 pm - in which case, you have to get permission from the Town to work after 5 pm.

The Police Chief has the authority to authorize emergency construction work that exceeds the Town's noise level limitations and hours of construction regulations. Requests are reviewed on a case by case basis and are typically for construction work that requires continuous work that cannot be delayed once it starts - such as those concrete pours. Normal work does not constitute grounds for special before/after hours permission.

Neighbor Notification

When permitting work, the contractor is required to notify all neighbors abutting the subject parcel along with those parcels directly across the street at least 72 hours in advance of the scheduled work. If the 72 hour advance notice is not possible due to the date of the issuance of the exemption, the contractor shall immediately upon approval of the exemption, notify surrounding residents of the scheduled work. Failure to notify surrounding residents may prevent future exemption approvals.

Online Listing of Permits

The Town provides an online list of permits granted for before or after hours permits. If there are concerns with before or after hours work, check here for a permit, if there is no permit listed, contact Police Dispatch immediately and an officer will be dispatched to shut down the job site - (650) 688-6500.

When Can Work Be Done

Construction work (via contractor) is permitted Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm only.

When residents are personally undertaking the work and operating the equipment, they are exempt from the noise restrictions and may do such work to improve or maintain their property on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm - hand and power tools only.

Power garden equipment (such as leaf blowers, vacuums, power mowers, rototillers, etc.) may be used between the hours of Monday through Friday, 8 am to 6 pm, 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays, and 10 am to 3 pm on Sundays. Heavy duty equipment, such as wood chippers,  chain saws, stump removers and other types of equipment are restricted to Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm.
