[ARCHIVED] Home Diversion Calculator - Cart Weighing Project in Atherton October 21

Carts

RethinkWaste is conducting the third round of their research project to weigh residential carts for the web-based Home Diversion Calculator Program launched in August. The cart weighing is taking place October 9-October 23 by consultant, R.J. Proto Consulting Group, Inc., between roughly 6am - 11 am on the regular Monday-Friday collection days.

The consultant will be measuring the weight of all three carts set out for collection by households and making note of how full each cart is. The schedule has been developed in collaboration with Recology to minimize operational impacts. The consultant will be in Atherton on Monday, October 21. Attached is a flyer posted on the RethinkWaste website that will also be used by the consultant as a handout should residents have questions.

RethinkWaste launched the Home Diversion Calculator in August on its redesigned website. The Home Diversion Calculator is designed to help residents determine how much recycling and compost materials they are setting out weekly in comparison to garbage. On the calculator page, residents simply select the size of each of their carts and how full each was when they set them out for collection during any given week. By clicking the “Go” button, they will receive that week’s diversion rate. Launching the web-based calculator is the first step in the grassroots campaign to recognize residents for their efforts and motivate even higher recycling levels. The second phase of the program will focus on participation commitment and recognition of households with high diversion rates. Here is a link to the calculator.
