On 4/18/19 at 1620 hours, an Atherton PD Sergeant attempted
to pull over a reckless driver on El Camino Real near Encinal Ave. The vehicle
fled into on-coming traffic and the driver abandoned the car a short distance
away, in a parking lot on the 1300 block of El Camino Real. Witnesses informed
the officers that the driver had jumped the fence into the neighboring
construction site. Officers learned the registered owner of the vehicle was on
parole for burglary. During a search of the vehicle narcotics and burglary
tools were located. As the officers were searching for the suspect with a
police K9, a vehicle was reportedly stolen about half a mile away on the 100
block of Laurel St. During the course of the follow up investigation, officers
were able to identify Michael Silks, 34 years old, out of Redwood City as the
suspect.
On 4/19/19 at around 0841 hours, San Mateo County Sheriff’s
deputies spotted Silks on the 2500 block of Spring St in Redwood City, driving
the same vehicle he abandoned the day prior. Silks was taken into custody for
vehicle theft, felony evading, possession of stolen property and a parole
violation. At this point the stolen vehicle has not been recovered.
