On 08/29/2019, at approximately 2:54 PM, a gray Honda Odyssey travelling northbound on Middlefield Road (just north of Surrey Lane) collided with a speed limit pole and an oak tree on the northbound shoulder. The Atherton Police Department arrived on scene and contacted the driver of the vehicle, 21 year old Menlo Park resident, Bryan E. Zuleta. After further investigation, officers determined that Zuleta was under the influence of alcohol, and also discovered that Zuleta’s 7 year old sibling was in the vehicle at the time of the collision. As a result of the collision, the 7 year old sustained non-life threatening and was transported via ambulance to Kaiser in Redwood City. Officers determined that the 7 year old was not in the proper safety restraint system when this collision occurred. California law requires that all children under the age of eight and under 4 feet and 9 inches must be properly secured in a federally approved child restraint system (child safety seat).
Zuleta was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County jail for the following charges: 23153(a) CVC- DUI With Injury and 273(a) PC- Child Endangerment.
