[ARCHIVED] Caltrain Beginning Night Work in Atherton

train.JPG

This work will be performed at night and early morning hours. The established work period is 8pm – 6am, in order to maintain daytime Caltrain service. The established work nights are Tuesday – Saturday, no work is planned Sunday or Monday nights. Caltrain has informed the Town that the required work within Atherton will require 10-11 nights. The scheduled works dates are Jan 2 – 4, Jan 7 – 11, and Jan 14 – 16.

This work is part of the Communications Based Overlay Signal System (CBOSS) Positive Train Control (PTC) Project which is an advanced signal system that will equip the corridor with federally-mandated safety technology. The project extends from San Jose to San Francisco. This project will increase safety by:

• Eliminating the risk of train-to-train collisions
• Reducing the risk of potential derailments by enforcing speed limits
• Providing additional safety for railroad workers on the tracks
• Improving grade crossing performance to reduce gate downtime and improve traffic circulation

The nature of the work includes identifying utility cables, digging a small trench and boring close to the tracks within the Caltrain right-of-way, and installation of fiber optic cable. Adjacent residents may experience some minor installation noise during construction along with the necessary construction lighting. Caltrain is sensitive to these potential impacts and inconvenience caused by this work.
