Town Hall/Permit Center - Holiday Closure

Town Hall/Contract Post Office and Permit Center will be closed on Monday, October 12th , in observance of Columbus Day.

Police Services will not be affected by this closure. We will resume the current modified in-person public contact hours on Tuesday, October 13th, which are Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

November 3, 2020 Elections Update
Atherton Vote-by-Mail Drop box


Official Vote-by-Mail Ballots began mailing out on Monday, October 5, 2020.  The Town of Atherton has an indoor Vote-by-Mail (VBM) drop box to assist voters with returning completed ballots.  

The VBM drop box is at Town Administrative Offices (150 Watkins Avenue) available during business hours which are currently Monday to Friday 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM. 

Beginning on Monday, 10/26 to 11/3 (Election Day) VBM Drop box hours will be extended from Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Voting - How can I Vote?

The San Mateo County Elections Division has prepared a comprehensive website to educate voters on all of the ways you can vote. Voters can complete and return your Vote-by-Mail ballot that was mailed to the address on file with the Elections Division or vote in person as early as October 5th at the available locations listed on the County website. Where is the Atherton Vote-by-Mail drop-box?

The Atherton Vote-by-Mail drop-box is located at 150 Watkins Avenue, Atherton CA, 94027 | Holbrook-Palmer Park within the Town Administrative Offices. This is an indoor drop-box and office hours are currently Monday to Friday 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.  

There are outdoor Vote-by-Mail drop-boxes available 24-hours a day at:

  • Menlo Park City Hall – 701 Laurel Street, Menlo Park, CA 94025  
  • Redwood City - 555 County Center, Redwood City, CA 94063


When will the Atherton Vote Center Open?

The Atherton Vote Center will open on October 31st through November 3rd, Election Day.  It will be located at: 

Menlo College, El Camino Hall - 1000 El Camino Real, Atherton, CA 94027

Make the switch to a new electric car


The 2020 New EV Rebate Program will offer rebates of $1,000 towards the cost of a new fully electric vehicle (EV) and $700 for a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) purchased by San Mateo County residents between Oct. 1 through Dec. 31. The 2020 program is limited to San Mateo County residents who have not previously purchased or leased an EV. This year’s program has been expanded and allows San Mateo County residents to purchase from a wider range of vehicle models and from sellers outside of the county, including online sellers. The rebate is limited to one per person and two per electricity account. Eligible vehicles are new EVs or PHEVs $45,000 or less.

Peninsula Clean Energy is also providing residents the opportunity to experience driving an EV with a $200 rebate toward the rental of an EV and assistance in setting up at-home or at-dealership test drives.


Recology San Mateo

Coats for Kids 


In partnership with Recology of San Mateo County the Town is pleased to share the Coats for Kids Program with residents.   

This year’s Coats for Kids curbside collection  will take place during the week of November 9th  -  November 13th.  

The Town will have collection containers at our Town Hall Administrative Offices at 150 Watkins Avenue in Holbrook Palmer Park.
