Celebrating Atherton's 100th Birthday

The Town of Atherton turns 100 on September 12, 2023. You'll want to save the date for two celebrations:

  • September 12, 2023: Special Town Council meeting on September 12, 2023. Residents are invited to join the Town for a screening of a centennial video celebration and cake.
  • September 24, 2023: Centennial Celebration at Town Center with exhibits, food, family activities, and tree giveaway

Leading up to those celebrations, each week in the Atherton Online, we will feature icons, places, and historical moments that have made this Town the vibrant community that it is today. This week, the Moulton's and the Merrill's are featured:

Photo dated 1923 of the Merrill children at the ocean at Fogmore-by-the-Sea. They are Nancy, Charles Junior, John, Frank, Lewis and Peter. No other family match-up than the Moulton’s and the Merrill’s have shaped the character of Atherton beginning in the 1880’s and continuing to this day. As some of the first families to reside in Atherton, their lives were very intertwined in marriage, children, business, home building and civic activities. The Carriage House at Holbrook-Palmer Park is dedicated to Genevieve (Gen) Merrill.

Committee Recruitment

Atherton Community Members! Your participation is critical to the City Council’s and Town staff’s success in serving the community. One great way to participate is by joining one of the citizen advisory bodies established by our City Council. Currently, we are accepting applications to join the following Committees:

  • Rail
  • Bicycle and Pedestrian
  • Transportation
  • Environmental Programs

Volunteering to serve on one of the Town’s committees is a great opportunity to learn about local government, help influence decisions, and provide recommendations to City leaders.

Applications are considered as they are received. Learn more & apply at:

Take the Pickleball Survey

The Town of Atherton is seeking community feedback on the possibility of adding pickleball to Holbrook-Palmer Park. The purpose of the survey is to understand and gather comments, both positive and negative, to guide the Council decision-making about pickleball in the Park.
