Housing Element Update: Join the October 23 Community WorkshopThe Town is currently updating the Housing Element of its General Plan, which will include adopting Objective Design Standards for potential Multifamily Housing Developments. See updates related to the Housing Element here (last updated October 16). Please join us at a community workshop on October 23 at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers (80 Fair Oaks Lane) to focus on the introduction of basic objective design and development criteria (height, setbacks, massing articulation, etc.). At this workshop the Town will seek input from the community on (1) the breadth of criteria considered and (2) appropriate standards and thresholds that will guide future residential development. This October 23 community workshop is the first of three opportunities for the public to provide feedback prior to any formal adoption proceedings on this topic. Additional opportunities include: 1) Joint Study Session of the City Council & Planning Commission on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 4PM in Council Chambers. This Study Session will review the content of the community workshop, include a summary of the public comments we received, and receive feedback from the Planning Commission and City Council. 2) Community Workshop #2 on Monday, November 13, 2023, Time and Location TBD. This workshop will present a set of draft objective design standards for multifamily development, with the goal to get additional community feedback and enable refinement before formal consideration. If you have any questions please contact Brittany Bendix, Town Planner at bbendix@ci.atherton.ca.us or (408) 688-2432. Pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, if you need special assistance in this meeting, please contact the City Clerk at (650) 752-0500.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month TipsOctober is recognized globally as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, an initiative aimed at promoting safe and responsible use of technology while highlighting the importance of cybersecurity in our daily lives. In line with this, we want to take a moment to address the importance of cybersecurity in our community. Cyber threats such as data breaches, identity theft, and online scams are on the rise, making it more critical than ever for us to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding our digital lives. During this Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we encourage all residents of Atherton to take the following steps to protect themselves and their digital assets: - Strong Passwords: Use strong, unique passwords for all online accounts, and consider using a password manager to keep track of them.
- Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Enable 2FA wherever possible, as it adds an extra layer of security to your accounts.
- Regular Software Updates: Keep your operating systems, applications, and security software up to date to patch known vulnerabilities.
- Beware of Phishing: Be cautious about clicking on links or downloading attachments in emails from unknown sources. Verify the sender's legitimacy before taking any action.
- Secure Your Wi-Fi: Change default router passwords, use strong encryption, and regularly update your Wi-Fi network settings.
- Backup Your Data: Regularly back up important data to an external device or secure cloud storage to prevent data loss in case of cyberattacks.
- Educate Yourself and Your Family: Ensure that you and your loved ones are aware of common cyber threats and know how to recognize and respond to them.
- Report Suspicious Activity: If you come across suspicious online activities or believe you've fallen victim to a cyberattack, report it to the relevant authorities.
