The native plants around Atherton Town Center are now easily identifiable thanks to the Atherton Garden Guild (AGG)! Their dedicated members set out to identify each perennial plant at the new Atherton Town Center and placed one hundred ninety-two easy-to-read, durable, and attractive labels, identifying 25 native species. The tags include the plant’s common and botanical names creating a fun and interactive community walk-through garden, which deepens the experience. When visitors visit the town center, the plant label will help them identify plants so visitors can look for further plant care information. Check out the tags for your own garden inspiration! Special thanks go to AGG Past President Joan Sanders for the idea, AGG President Patti Spezzaferro, and Nan Ray for her knowledge of plants, which proved essential for this task. The Guild also credits Suzanne Legallet, Town Arborist Sally Bentz for their horticulture input, Suzanne Van Ness and Ross Koningstein, for working on the installation. To learn more about these botanical tags for your garden, check out AAA Quality Engraver's website here. Founded in 1966, AGG, a nonprofit corporation, is interested in home gardening, flower arranging, horticulture, and conservation. The Atherton Garden Guild maintains the rose garden in Holbrook Palmer Park. For information on the Atherton Garden Guild, please contact Patti Spezzaferro, President of Atherton Garden Guild, at triziadesign@gmail.com.

Be a Part of the Future of Bay Area Freeways StudyThe Bay Area Metropolitan Commission (MTC) will conduct a public webinar as part of the Next Generation Bay Area Freeways Study, which seeks to better understand the feasibility of all-lane tolling on freeways with robust parallel transit in 2035. Freeway pricing has the potential to reduce travel time, encourage more sustainable travel behavior and fund public transit and road safety improvements that would make it easier for future generations to embrace viable alternatives to driving. This interactive webinar invites the public to weigh in on tradeoffs between a future with and without freeway pricing. Participants will learn about projected transportation outcomes in 2035 and provide feedback on potential pricing strategies, as well as how funding could be reinvested in Bay Area communities. There will be two opportunities to attend the virtual event live: Webinar #1 Tuesday, November 7, 2023 | 12–1:30 p.m. Participate on Zoom Webinar ID: 824 4356 6350 Passcode: 075326 Phone: (408) 638-0968 Webinar #2 Wednesday, November 8, 2023 | 5–6:30 p.m. Participate on Zoom Webinar ID: 872 8030 7682 Passcode: 930760 Phone: (408) 638-0968 Both presentations will be the same, so participants need only attend one webinar. No registration is required. For those who cannot attend live, a video recording will be posted to www.mtc.ca.gov/FasterFreeways. Feedback and questions can be submitted by emailing info@bayareametro.gov. .
