National Night Out 2018

National Night Out 2018 was a smashing success for Atherton citizens. On Tuesday, August 7, residents were invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the Annual National Night Out against crime and drug prevention event. Atherton Police Officers mingled with residents to promote safe communities by working together to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and to send a message to criminals letting them know that Atherton is organized and are ready to fight back.

The Atherton Police Department, Menlo Park Fire Protection District and the CHP hosted a party at Holbrook-Palmer Park. The festivities began at 6:00 p.m. and continued into the evening ending around 8:00 p.m. The Public Works, Planning and Building Department provided and cooked hot dogs, buns and nachos for 350 people!

Thank You!

Special thanks are in order for Interwest Consulting Group who donated the food and to CalWater/West Valley Construction for lending us the BBQ to cook for that many people. Thank you to the Atherton Library for hosting a booth and bringing the imagination playground which is always a hit among the kids... and to the Atherton Disaster and Preparedness Team (ADAPT) for hosting a booth and engaging residents in disaster prep. And as always to CHP for landing the bringing the highlight of the event, landing their emergency helicopter in the Park for children to sit in and take pictures.

While community members socialized with other community members, children were able to play in jumpy houses, have their faces painted, get balloons and take tours of the fire engines and police cars that were parked at the event. Reddy Fox was out in full force dancing to the music provided by Kimbrough Salas and the children enjoyed giving the Fox high fives and hugs. Over 300 community members showed up for the event, and everyone had the opportunity to meet their local police officers and fire fighters. Thank you to everyone who made this annual event a success.
